    Love on Beach

It has now been a little bit over 24 hours and we are headed south still. Last night we spent the night as a family in Nashville Tennessee at the Holiday Inn. If you know what a road trip is like with family, you will know that it can be challenging physically and emotionally.

One of the most common things that I have noticed by traveling long distances in cars is I have a tendency to dehydrate myself a drink of water. The same can be said about my kids and wife. Traveling with 3 kids and your wife can be quite a challenge during normal times. However when Aunt Flo has come to visit we can be even more challenging.

Anyhow, we woke up this morning and packed the van. And if you know what that’s like you know that can be even a bigger challenge. Playing the game of Jenga with suitcases that didn’t I get back right can be like trying to cram 10 pounds in a 5-pound bag. Anyhow the troops are up everyone’s been fed and we’ve loaded the vehicle very sloppily and are ready to head out toward North Carolina. Wait for the update and in the meantime your thoughts and prayers be with me.

While trying to get out of town on a family vacation started running out of time on Friday night. We were to pick up the rental vehicle that was a big change in our away from home. Seeing that it was Friday night and you know how that is going to be 15 minutes late for our presentation, started problem-solving and trying to figure out another option. I pick up the phone and called her with Enterprise and was able to secure a 7-passenger Dodge Journey. Able to save two hours by getting started in the Dodge Journey. I spent time with the company, I need it started. The child to the band heating and plumbing tradition. But the thing that was over an hour away and abandoned you were able to save an extra $2 time, and able to continue on the right path all the cast that done. Anytime I find myself driving eventual destination it is a place that will pick up in the next 12 miles trying as much time as possible at this late date.

Problem-solving things not going exactly as planned.  Ultimately that I’m saying it has to be someone in the neighborhood before and after 5 hours by being able to solve that problem. We are all doing the same 24 hours a day it’s just how we decide to manage those hours, ultimately decides the results.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a position where you just came home from an extended trip for business and feel discombobulated at your own home.

Recently I returned from a three-week-long business trip to San Antonio Texas. Getting back to your own home and the routine of a home can be very difficult. What I mean by that is not difficult in a sense that it’s nice to be home but the pace at which you have been running and now the pace that you’re at seem to be two things diametrically opposed.

A few days ago I was going 90 miles an hour down the 1604 swerving in and out of traffic. Today I’m on White Pines Road driving miles 50 miles an hour and join green scenery both on the left and right of me and occasionally watching The Rock River me and her to the left. Two worlds far apart one in a desert and the other located in the lush green Sauk Valley area of Northwest Illinois.

The other day as I was landing in Chicago I thought to myself how interesting it is to take off in one place and see geography be so starkly different than the geography that I’m looking down on two and a half hours later. It made me think that as I drove down there and saw the gentle changes it was very nice and it was different and I could enjoy it at a different level. However I also truly enjoyed the drastic diametric change that happened in 2 hours and 57 minutes later.

It’s interesting to see how that geography changes so drastically. Then when the reality hits home that your home and you know I need to get ready for another trip but one much different a family vacation and family vacations can be challenging as well as fun. This one should be a fun family trip we are headed to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and we are going to stay there on the beach for a week.

There’s so much to get done as we head out of town the fact that we own chickens and have 2 dogs complicates things, however, we have good friends and family in the area here that will help us while we’re gone.

Something about nothing is just a great place to voice all my concerns and talk through all of the problems that I have to work through before I head out of town. If you’ve ever been in the similar position you will know that there is a lot to get done before you head out. Make sure you don’t leave on the iron and make sure you don’t leave on the stove. To things at always give me a sense of panic that I always want to make sure I have off. I always make sure that I’m the last person out the door by house and it seems to help us very much so when we get stuff done the one thing that I know for sure is a time going to have a lot of stuff to do and then next few weeks.

The picture at the top is really going to be where I am at.

gustaf-skarsgard-floki-vikings-historyCrap! I can’t believe it!   We are getting ready for this big vacation and the house air conditioner went out.  Couldn’t be better timing. We are all getting ready, packed to the hilt and we have a huge day tomorrow with tieing up loose ends and getting the show on the road.

So I jumped online and started looking for a heating and air conditioning guy and I found this local guy who is advertising a $49 service call. I did not believe it so I called the guy , Jason, after hours and he answered.  I explained to him my situation and he was totally cool with it. I know the pun…. right.   Well, anyway it turns out he lives near me and said he would stop by my house after he was done at work.   He rolled up at 9:00 at night and knocked on my door.   At that point, I did not mind that he interrupted a rerun of Baywatch.   Oops… did I just say that?

It only took him ten minutes to look at my air conditioner unit outside and he found a wirOppa Gangnam Stylee that was loose on a capacitor.  He crimped it back on and that was it. It’s fixed.  I would have kissed him but I’m not gay or headed that way and I was still thinking of Baywatch.

The guy could have totally taken me for a ride and charged me for a new air conditioner but he was honest and didn’t.  This was fracking service.  Who else does this?  I’m going to recommend this guy to everyone.  Where else are you going to find someone honest.  So the Davenport air conditioning repair guy is Jason and he is at http://www.bestheatingandairia.com.

Good on him for being honest. Total no brainer when who I’m going to call from now on.

Front page here yo.

When it comes to finding the proper balance in one’s life it is important to find activities that keep you in a routine. I have found that by managing my schedule I am able to maintain a normal sense of Rhythm and paste in my life.

Every morning I spend at least 15 minutes reviewing a list of things that I would like to accomplish that day. By creating a list it keeps me on task for the goals that I want to accomplish and things that need to get done throughout the week month quarter and year.

At the end of the day when I can look back at my list and see check marks or accomplish goals and tasks, I do feel much better. One of the ways that I like to end my night is by reviewing that list and pushing over other tasks that did not get accomplished that day. By doing so this helps manage my stress because I am aware of the things that I need to get done. One of the ways that I also help manage this is through a very detailed schedule and calendar of events. I carry with me at all times my calendar that is on my phone sync to my Google Calendar. By updating it regularly I find that I am able to accomplish more tasks quicker and more effectively.

In many cases, I have tried to help others become more organized by taking on some of the same patterns and behaviors that have helped me gain control over my life and schedule. In some cases keeping a schedule can be the difference between you feeling accomplished and in control to the adverse on the Comp List and out of control.

I am constantly looking forward to creating updated list of things that I can add and accomplish. One of the things that I find most beneficial in creating a list is the ability to push those things around a bit and help prioritize what’s most important. Throughout the day, I find some tasks get put at the lower end of things that needed to get accomplished. Depending on how my day is going my list can change dynamically. By having the flexibility to move in directions that require me to accomplish tasks in different order I am able to still stay focused on what’s most important and track it throughout the day week and month.

So recently I have the opportunity to revisit San Antonio Texas. Many years have passed since I was last in San Antonio. In 1997 I was a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene University. It was during a spring break that me and two other friends got into a car and drove the entire way non-stop. Of course being the planters that we were, we stop by the café or cafeteria to grab 2 bags of bagels we got two bags of bagels and a full tank of gas. I felt very much like The Blues Brothers interpretation of a good night. If you recall the movie they talk about we have a half a pack of cigarettes a full tank of gas it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses. I guess that was the same checklist that we pretty much made up on our way heading south to San Antonio.

In 1997 as I recall San Antonio it was just not as busy and crazy as it is today. So much has changed. From what I recall I remember going to the Alamo and it not being as built up as it is today. It truly today reminds you of almost a Disney ask World appeal period in 1997 when I first visited San Antonio I noticed it being a bit dirtier and dry here.

Of course, the time of year that I went was in February / March. This time, I went it was full-on hotter than the blazes of hell. The one thing that has not changed, about my opinion of San Antonio, is the people.

The people of San Antonio are some of the nicest I have met anywhere. The mix that I have found has been mostly retirees from the United States military. Many of the people that are in the San Antonio area have either work for or are currently working for the military.

The Air Force has a large contingency as well as the army. This area is one of the nicest areas of the country I have ever visited. I have not gone to any places in San Antonio while on my recent visit and felt unsafe. Of course, I do have some perspective on what unsafe feels like.

Growing up in the midwest I was not exposed to the entire world until I grew up and decided to travel abroad as well as nationally. I have been on the southside of Chicago and felt very uncomfortable at times. But if never experienced that same feeling not even once in San Antonio.

The thing I like best about San Antonio is the sun and the Heat. And the thing I hate most about San Antonio is the sun and the heat. It’s a great City that’s growing and has a great economic present and future. I look forward to another upcoming visit and the adventures that I no doubt I will have.
